NVC Summer Camp 2020

Camp Costs

Registration Fees

COVID- 19 : No Cancellation fees

We live in uncertain times, and it is very hard to predict what is coming, and even harder to commit to anything even months away.

Due to current COVID-19 pandemic, we are not charging any cancellation fees until June 16th.

Sliding Scale Fees*

We offer a sliding scale to allow people with diverse incomes to participate. Please choose an amount on our sliding scale that reflects your ability to pay. The middle amount is the average that we need to receive from campers to cover our coordination costs:

Individual adult$200
Individual toddlers,
children, and teens
Family rate
(family of 3 or 4)

Individual adult $350
Individual toddlers, children, and teens $150
Family rate
(family of 3 or 4)

Individual adult$500
Individual toddlers,
children, and teens
Family rate
(family of 3 or 4)

*In our request for financial contribution, we are trying to balance two sets of needs:

  • creating sustainability for the organizational and administrative side of the camp so that we can keep offering this experience to the community;

  • allowing people with a diverse range of income levels to participate to our camp.

With the willingness to hold both sets of needs with care, we decided to offer a flexible contribution to our camp. The middle price is the amount we would have charged if we were not offering a flexible rate. It is the average amount we need to receive to make this camp sustainable.

If you decide to pay a higher amount, you are contributing to allowing people with less resources to participate to the camp. Please choose an amount that reflects your ability to contribute.

Consider paying less on the scale if you:

  • are supporting children or have other dependents
  • have significant debt
  • have medical expenses not covered by insurance
  • receive public assistance
  • have immigration-related expenses
  • are an elder with limited financial support
  • are an unpaid community organizer
  • are a returning citizen who has been denied work due to incarceration history

Consider paying more on the scale if you:

  • own the home you live in
  • have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money
  • travel recreationally
  • have access to family money and resources in times of need
  • work part time by choice
  • have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education (or gender and racial privilege, class background, etc.) Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, I ask you to recognize this as a choice.

You can also:

  • make an additional donation: Would you be willing to help our Summer Camp engage a diverse audience? Your donations let us bring participants and trainers from Latin America and include campers that would otherwise be unable to attend. When you register, it will give you an option to make an additional donation.

  • request a scholarship: if the minimal amount of the sliding scale is still a barrier for you, we offer scholarships. Please answer this form to request a scholarship:

Costs for other types of accommodation vary. You can find options on the Gabriola Island Tourism website below. Here you will also find valuable information about the island, transportation options and services available.

Food costs

You are responsible for your own food. There will be two evening potlucks during the camp to share meals all together. You are welcome to collaborate to cook with other campers at any time.
